About Kappa

The sisters of Kappa Phi Omega take pride in being a diverse group of strong and supportive women. Our chapter is made up of individuals who have a variety of majors, talents, interests, and who come from different walks of life, but are bound by the ideals of sisterhood. Our members are joined together by our core values of loyalty, scholarship, service and being true to oneself. Being a part of this chapter means that we are all Sisters and Friends Unto the End. Our strong relationship with Alumnae, the history of our chapter, the connections with other Otterbein Greek chapters, and our love and appreciation for tradition are what make us unique. Members of Kappa Phi Omega are Resident Assistants, Peer Mentors, Orientation Leaders, Cardinal Corps Leaders, Honors Students, Members of Otterbein Christian Fellowship, OtterThon, and many more. We are athletes, artists, musicians and dancers. We have a very widespread presence on campus!

Our History

Kappa Phi Omega was founded in 1921. Our motto is SAFUTE, which stands for Sisters And Friends Unto The End. Our official colors are turquiose, black and gold. Our official mascot is the Black Scottie Dog, named Macintosh. Our official flower is the Yellow Chrysanthemum. Our philanthropy is HIV/AIDs Awareness and Prevention. We are located at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.

Our Brother Fraternities

Kappa Phi Omega’s official brother fraternity is Sigma Delta Phi, otherwise known as Sphinx, and we partake in events and socials with them.

Kappa Phi Omega also recognizes the men of Pi Beta Sigma as our “blood brothers” and we have events and socials with them as well. Our motto with the brothers of Pi Beta Sigma is SAFOFA, which is a combination of our two separate mottos, SAFUTE and OFA. Combined, SAFOFA means Sisters And Friends One For All.

Our Fling

Kappa Phi Omega has a Scottish heritage, and because of this, we are most known for our Fling. The fling is a traditional highland flog, and in the 1950s we added the strums to separate between each fling. We fling at any and all official Greek Life events, such as Greek Week, recruitment events, Homecoming, and many more. Kappa Sisters are well known, both on campus and around town, for our performances of this traditional Scots dance.

Our Alumnae

We have a very close relationship with our alumnae since they are just as much our sisters as the active members. Kappa Phi Omega is a sisterhood as a whole, including those who have since graduated, which is why we often team up with our alumnae for certain events, including recruitment events, homecoming, and more. Our Alumnae keep us going and because of their vital roles, we have a seperate panel of officers for our alumnae.
